me?! i’m flattered.
Saturday is here! I know that’s probably super exciting to the working folk, but this particular Saturday means packing, packing, and more packing for me. It’s okay, though, because I happen to be on Cloud 9 right now. Sorry for the cliche, but it was unavoidable. Before I get too deep into this post…I’ve acquired some pretty cool new Twitter followers. @BanginBodz and @JustSitThere. Yeah, no words.
Before I begin, let me preface this post by saying I hate to brag. I know I have many great accomplishments to brag about and whatnot, but it’s never been my style. That being said, I think I’ve earned some bragging rights as of yesterday. This being my forum to say what I want, today, I choose to brag.
Yesterday morning, I went to Starbucks with the mother of the children I summer-nanny for. I truly enjoyed it. We talked about anything and everything. I think it’s so great to be able to have an adult other than my parents that I have such a great relationship with. Oh, and did I mention there was Starbucks involved? I think there’s a pretty obvious plus side to that. Before I went, I made some pretty awesome oats.
Following my Starbucks trip, I went to wander around the nearby outdoor shopping center after returning a dress at Anthropologie for my mom. Sadly, there was nothing there for me. Womp. Lucky I like to wander! I did make some super sale purchases at Gap, though.
I’ve been meaning to talk to you guys about my new outlook on life, but this isn’t the post to do it. Let’s just say it has me flipping every potentially negative situation into a positive one, and it leads to a much happier me. I’m going to sound so weird, but I think the Dalai Lama has it right. We all have the fundamental needs for happiness and compassion throughout life, so why waste time and energy being angry?
The past couple days, I’ve really been focusing on this. Every time I come across a situation I’m not too fond of, (ie. making 10 Powerpoints for one of my mom’s co-workers) I turn it positive. I offered to help my mom with the Powerpoints, and while ALMOST cursing the woman who sent me them, I decided that I was taking a whole ton of stress and pressure off of her. Besides, what would I honestly have been doing during that time instead? Watching more Sex and the City?
Buddhists will tell you that we should devote our lives to helping other people and doing what will make other people happy. No, not people-pleasing. Helping because we want to. Because it makes us happy to know we’re helping someone else. It’s simple stuff, but sometimes we need it written out for us.
Obviously, I’ll have more to say once I’ve read more – but that’s what I’ve gotten out of reading the past couple chapters.
My last brag of the day – I got a writer/advocate internship at AliveCampus.com! I’m too excited, seriously. I love being Virginia Tech’s Campus Correspondent, so this will just add to my repetoire (spelling?). I’ll be updating you on how that’s going, but right now, I’m writing one story/week and being a social media butterfly. Something I’m all too familiar with.
The greatest thing about this internship? I don’t have to dress up.
Hehe. Busy-ish day today and I’m off to school tomorrow!

girl I hope you brag more often, the writing alivecampus thing sounds right up your alley and something to be proud of. I am kind of in awe of those followers, it is so funny the people that follow you right?
Woohoo! Congrats on such an awesome internship love!! And I love that outlook you’re working with right now…I have been trying to do that a lot more too, and it does make me feel a lot more positive and better overall! Have to keep it up
Have fun with the girls today!!
so much fun stuff happening in your life girl! i’m so glad we got to meet this morning – that was a fun thing happening in my life! i’m sad you’re going back to school but i can’t wait to see you in march!
So proud of you for landing that internship!! Also, love your new outlook! What a great way to live your life– being happy with helping others, not to be confused with being a people pleaser.
Brag away!! From the looks of this post, you have every right to be proud of yourself!! It’s true that no one likes a self-promoting … nincompoop
… but sharing a brag every once in a while? No one is going to begrudge you that!! Tonnes of fabulous things on your horizon — I hope you chase them all with all your heart!!
So many fun things to say about this
but CONGRATS on the new internship! You have all the luck with those online jobs. I think everyone deserves to brag once in awhile… that’s why I do hollie’s PMB post each week! Also, SATC- such a great way to release stress. I can’t believe you’re off to school tomorrow. Booooooooooo. But you already know how I feel about that so I won’t go on and on for days about it.
I am loving your new lifestyle view. “We all have the fundamental needs for happiness and compassion throughout life, so why waste time and energy being angry?” That’s definitely something I need to remember everyday!
Congrats on getting that internship it seems like an awesome opportunity! I’m excited to hear about your new outlook on life too.
Love your new outlook and way of life. Brag all you want girl, because you… 1. Are awesome & 2. Deserve too =)
